HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-11-16 Public Comment - J. Milchen - TaxesUpon reading the memo from the City Manager, the information left some unanswered
questions. I hope these can be considered and discussed before any binding action to
sell the property.
Re "returning the property to the tax rolls clearly outweigh any other
governmental purposes for which the property could be used."
I support the city using this property to generate revenue through development, but
wonder what other purposes actually were considered. A few questions that came to
mind:
Does “any other purpose' include subdividing the property for sale in smaller
units? How would this impact the net proceeds?
Does “any other purpose" include leasing some property for commercial
purposes? Would this yield more or less revenue than selling outright? For space
that would become commercial development (whether the land was sold or
leased) will the Commission consider requirements that commercial space leased
by the buyer (or City) will serve community needs and advance the stated City
goals for development?
If there will be commercial space, has the Commission discussed whether this
should be space reserved for lease to local entrepreneurs, rather than chains or
absentee-owned business? If the property is sold outright, this could be a
condition of sale.
Thank you for considering these questions.
Sincerely,
Jeff Milchen
