Hello Mr. Mayor and the city commission,
I received and read tonight's meeting agenda last week, and the demolition text proposal caught my eye. In reading
through, I tried to count all the items to be considered: demo by neglect, demo of unsafe structures, what is "unsafe,"
simplifying the demo permit process for nonhistoric properties, beefing up the process to protect those that are
historic... I lost track of the tally. But I realized that the implications were far too broad to be part of one document,
voted up or down in one night.
Then today someone mentioned that I had only read the first three pages, just the executive summary. I was
informed that the staff report is 202 pages long. What a surprise!
I'd strongly urge you to punt. I've seen you needle around words before. it's tedious to watch, but the goal is
worthy. I wonder about the staff's goal here.
Please remember that property owners, contractors, architects, developers and--don't forget--lawyers will spend
years going over the details.
Thanks for your time.
