Here are just some of the reasons that allowing Selling to be done in spaces allotted to Parking doesn't make sense, no matter who does it in other places. There are places you don't find it, Juneau AK be a prime example. Why? 1. Parking is parking. Their primary purpose there is NOT parking: It is Selling. If parking no longer means parking shouldn't the definition be changed to say that parking is parking, & it doesn't include selling — except for special occasions like Xmas Stroll, & many more special occasions. 2. How about the ordinance Sec.36.04.210, that says, "It is unlawful to park any commercial vehicle upon any street for a period of time longer than one hour, provided, however, that when lawfully & continuously loading or unloading, such commercial vehicles may remain parked for such time as is necessary to complete such loading or unloading. . . . " 3. These trucks are hugely dangerous to mere mortals who have normal or smaller-than-normal vehicles. There's been a proliferation of bigger vehicles since gas is cheaper; should those of us who continue to believe in global warming & the need to conserve energy -- & drive small cars become fair game for these monster vehicles? 4. The numbers of total Food Trucks -- & the problems they cause — will grow while this discussion goes on. When I googled Food Trucks in Bozeman right after your August 1 meeting at which some Food Truckers told you it was their Constitutional Right as well as "being fair to them" to be able to sell from our public on-street parking, I found the names of 18 Food Trucks listed. When 1 attended last Friday's Art Walk, there was a brand-new one parked in the heart of Downtown, between Black & Tracy, named "Pork Bellies". Parking was very scarce; I drove around for a whiule, but finally had to accept the only parking place left open all the time was behind Pork Bellies, a most dangerous place to get in & out of. S. When 1 was sworn in as a City Commissioner, among other things we swore to protect the health, safety and welfare of our constituents. Don't you swear the same thing? if you consider our health, safety & welfare, you will not allow parking to be turned into Selling. There were 18 listed right after Aug. 1' City Commission meeting. At last Friday's Art Walk, Sept. 16, there was a new one, called PORK BELLIES parked on-street in the heart of Downtown Main. It was there already about 5:30 when I again was so unfortunate as to find the only parking place available was directly behind it. Too tall, too bulky, perhaps others had passed it up already as being too formidible to park behind. It likely stayed for many hours, showed no sign of leaving at 8 when the Art Walk was over. 6. Juneau AK has no Food Trucks on its Downtown parking. We do not need to follow the dangerous practices that seems to be a fad now. 7. We have too small an area for on-street parking Downtown. it's manifestly dangerous. Seeing is believing. ■ Mary Vant Hull, mvanthu11234@gmail.com. i FOOD TRUCKS IN BOZEMAN 1. Thai Basel 2.
