MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE CITY COMMISSION
BOZEMAN, MONT ANA
January 4, 1982

This being the time designated by law (Section 7-3-4322, Subparagraph [1], M.C.A., I
1981) and Chapter 2.08 of the Bozeman Municipal Code for the reorganization of the City
Commission in accordance with the results of the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday,
November 3, 1981, the City Commission met at 10:00 o'clock a.m., January 4, 1982, in the
Commission Room, City Hall Building, for reorganization purposes. Present were Mayor
MacNab, Commissioner Vollmer, Commissioner Stiff, Commissioner Swanson, Commissioner
Mathre, Commissioner-Elect Weaver, Commissioner-Elect Vant Hull, Commissioner-Elect
Anderson, City Manager Evans, Assistant City Manager Barrick, City Attorney Planalp and
the Clerk.
Father John McGrory opened the meeting with a prayer whereupon the following pro-
ceedings were had.
Signing of Notice of Special Meeting
It was moved by Commissioner Vollmer, seconded by Commisssioner Stiff, that the
Commission sign the Notice of Special Meeting for the purpose of reorganization of the City
Commission. The motion carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Commissioner Vollmer, Commissioner Stiff, Commissioner Swanson, Commissioner Mathre and I
Mayor MacNab; those voting No, none.
Reorganization of City Commission
This was the time and place set in Montana Statute for the reorganization of the City
Commission as per the results of the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November
3, 1981. The Official Bonds and Oaths of Office of Kenneth L. Weaver, Mary Vant Hull and
Anne Fowler Anderson, newly elected City Commissioners, for a four-year term commencing
January 4, 1982, have been approved and said Bonds and Oaths of Office are on fi Ie in the
office of the Clerk of the City Commission.
Retiring Mayor MacNab thanked all of the Commissioners with whom he has served. He
stated that it has been a real education; and enjoyable most of the time. He then asked that
the present Commission be excused and asked that they step down.
Retiring Mayor MacNab then turned the gavel of authority over to Incoming Mayor
Stiff. He wished Incoming Mayor Stiff the very best for the City and the new City
Commission. Retiring Mayor MacNab then issued a challenge to the new City Commission.
He noted that four years ago, the City was in a deficit position of nearly $1,000,000.00. I
The City is now out of that deficit position by more than $40,000.00. Retiring Mayor
MacNab challenged the new City Commission to tu rn the administration of the City over to a
new Commission in four years in as good a condition as it is received, or better if possible.

The Clerk of the City Commission administered the Oath of Office to I ncoming Mayor
Stiff and the three newly elected Commissioners, Anne Fowler Anderson, Kenneth L. Weaver
and Mary Vant Hull.
Mayor Stiff stated that all business will be deferred until the regular City Commission
meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 6, 1982. He welcomed the newly elected Commis-
I sioners to the Commission table, "where all the bucks stop. II Mayor Stiff stated that he is
looking forward to serving with the new City Commission.
Convocation
Commissioner Mathre closed the meeting with a prayer.
Adjournment - 10:15 a.m.
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was
moved by Commissioner Weaver, seconded by Commissioner Vant Hull, that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Commissioner Weaver, Commissioner Vant Hull, Commissioner Anderson, Commissioner Mathre
and Mayor Stiff; those voting No, none.
