Click2Gov QR Codes Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Chris Saunders, Interim Director of Community Development SUBJECT Special presentation on the rollout of the Click2gov Planning module and Quick Response (QR) codes for notices. MEETING DATE: August 22, 2016 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Special Presentation RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable BACKGROUND: The City of Bozeman constantly strives to improve services to its citizens. As the city grows rapidly it is more challenging to share information and connect effectively with the public. The City is investing in improved data management tools. Click2Gov software is a web service which enables the public to view real time information in the City’s SunGard system. It also provides eservices like electronic bill paying for utilities. Community Development presently uses the Click2Gov service to enable active tracking of building permits and scheduling of building inspections. The City has activated the Click2Gov Planning module. This allows the public to see the status of development proposals being reviewed as zoning, subdivision, or annexation applications. This additional service will allow the public to check the status on individual applications at any time through the City’s website. Community Development is also enhancing the public notices posted on site with Quick Response (QR) codes. A QR code is a machine-readable code consisting of an array of black and white squares, typically used for storing web addresses or other information for reading by the camera on a smartphone. A QR code enables ready access from a printed notice to the on-line Click2Gov service without having to type long address strings. A QR code can be shared electronically to enable people who may not have received a notice to connect to the tracking software. UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None. ALTERNATIVES: As determined by the City Commission FISCAL EFFECTS: Click2Gov software was purchased under a prior budget year. There is no charge to create the QR code.
