Message: The proposed increase in tree assessment compelled me to write. Consistent double-
digit tax and fee increases in Bozeman against no increases in Social Security or military
pensions means that an ever-increasing share of income is committed simply to taxes. I am sure
you’re aware that compounding has an evil side when it comes to costs. Unlike you, that retired
population does not have the luxury of voting themselves a pay raise exceeding the rate of inflation. The retired and lower income population is being penalized by failure to maintain costs
at least in line with the CPI. You are aware that taxes are a component of the “affordable”
housing you like to promote. You’re aware that every dollar taken by taxes is a dollar that is not
spent in local businesses. Let’s work to protect the interests of that retired population that is at
risk with uncontrolled spending.
