Message: Please consider making short term vacation rentals a more accessible and viable option
for residents. We live in a city where the cost of living is disproportionate to income levels and if
a resident chooses to innovate new ways to support their own ability to stay in this community or
to be able to afford supporting our local economy then we would be ignorant to try to stop it.
Airbnb most often provides an opportunity for locals to refer business to small shops and hidden gems for tourists who prefer to travel off the beaten path. It is unusual for an Airbnb guest to be
unruly or noisy and I venture to say that trying to shut down the vacation rentals based on
irrational fear of potential problems is a recipe for more civil disobedience going underground. I
would much prefer the weaving of nonconspicuous vacation rentals into our neighborhoods
where tourists can gain a better appreciation for our local culture to building more wasteful giant eyesore hotels that are overpriced for many poor travelers and pay starvation wages to their
employees
