HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-01-06 spec 8 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COMMISSION BOZEMAN, MONT ANA January 6, 1986 ********************* The City Commission met at 10:00 o'clock a.m., January 6,1986, in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, for reorganization purposes, as designated in Section 7-3-4322(1), I M.C.A., and Chapter 2.04.040(A) of the Bozeman Municipal Code, and in accordance with the results of the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November 5, 1985. Present were Mayor Weaver, Commissioner Mathre, Commissioner Vant Hull, Commissioner Anderson, Commissioner Jordan, Commissioner-Elect Martel, Commissioner-Elect Stiff, City Manager Wysocki, Assistant City Manager Barrick, City Attorney Crumbaker-Smith and Clerk of the Commission Sullivan. Pledge of Allegiance Mayor Weaver opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence, whereupon the following proceedings were held. Signing of Notice of Special Meeting It was moved by Commissioner Mathre, seconded by Commissioner Vant Hull, that the Commission sign the Notice of Special Meeting. The motion carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Mathre, Commissioner Vant Hull, Commissioner Anderson, Commissioner Jordan and Mayor Weaver; those voting No, none. Reorganization of City Commission This was the time and place set in Montana Statute for the reorganization of the City Commission as per the results of the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November 5, 1 985. The Official Bonds and Oaths of Office of Walter Martel and Alfred M. Stiff, newly- elected City Commissioners, for four-year terms commencing January 6, 1986, have been approved I and said Bonds and Oaths of Office are on file in the office of the Clerk of the City Commission. Also, the Bonds and Oaths of Office for Mary B. Vant Hull, continuing Commissioner, and Judith A. Mathre, incoming Mayor, are also on file in the office of the Clerk of the City Commis- sion. Retiring Commissioner Anderson expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to serve as Commissioner for the past four years. She noted the Commissioners have shared a number of difficult decisions; and she has no regrets for those decisions. She further noted this has been an innovative Commission; and she does not foresee any return to the manner in which the Commission previously operated. The Commissioner then expressed appreciation for City Manager Wysocki and his excellent guidance during the past two years. Commissioner Anderson then expressed support for Judy Mathre as the first woman Mayor of Bozeman, noting her fourteen years of experience as a member of various boards and commissions as well as City Commissioner. Retiring Mayor Weaver expressed his appreciation to the community for an opportunity to serve as Commissioner during the past four years. Clerk of the Commission Sullivan then administered the Oath of Office to Incoming Mayor Judith A. Mathre. Retiring Mayor Weaver then presented her with the gavel as well as a bouquet of flowers, along with his best wishes and Godspeed. He noted this is an important moment in the history of Bozeman, as the first woman Mayor has just been sworn in. Clerk of the Commission Sullivan then administered the Oaths of Office to re-elected Commissioner Mary B. The Mayor stated she hopes they will find this a rewarding and educational experience. 01-06-86 Special Meeting D9 Adjournment - 10:12 a.m. There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner Jordan, seconded by Commissioner Stiff, that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Jordan, Commissioner Stiff, Commissioner Martel, Commissioner Vant Hull and Mayor Mathre; those voting No, none.
