RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to (Re)appoint Michael Basile to the term expiring June 30, 2020, one new applicant to the existing term expiring June 30, 2017 and appoint one new applicant to the vacancy that expires June 30, 2020 on the Downtown Business
Improvement District Board.
BACKGROUND: Michael Basile’s term on the BID expired June 30, 2016. He has reapplied.
One vacancy with a term expiring June 30, 2016 exists, as well as a term that expired on June 30, 2016. Three applications have been received. Upon three terms being (re)appointed this
evening, the new expiration dates will be June 30, 2020.
Montana Code stipulates that BID Board members be owners of property within the
district. In the past, several applicants were appointed to the board as "property owner representatives" because their property title named a corporation as the owner rather than the
individual. For many years the City Commission has honored this precedent by appointing
property owner representatives to the BID Board.
The BID was originally created by Resolution No. 3361 and Ordinance No. 1517, per
MCA 7-12-1121, in May of 2000. In June of 2010, the BID was extended/recreated by Resolution No. 4263 for an additional ten years.
The board shall be comprised of not less than five, nor more than seven, owners of
property within the district. Members are appointed for staggered four-year terms.
The BID currently has two expired terms and one vacancy with one member reapplying and new three new applicants applying.

Please explain your relevant qualifications, interests and experiences. *: As a business owner in
downtown Bozeman, I would like to be more involved in the future development and prosperity of our unique downtown. We are a growing community and although that is a boon to our local
business people, it does come with some difficulties and complexities. I feel that my 8 years as a

small business owner in Bozeman (Cafe Fresco) and additional 7 years as a business owner in
Big Sky ( Mountain Maids, Inc.) will give me the perspective of a small business person, as well
as a lot of experience on both sides of issues that arise (as a customer service based business I
have experienced both what I am looking for in a downtown, as well as heard what my customers are interested in). I have run both of my businesses in a financially responsible way
and feel that transparency and fiscal responsibility are crucial to a successful business model.
Lastly, being in a busy restaurant gives me lots of time to talk to the customers and get to know
our community members better. I believe that knowing what people love and desire for Bozeman
will help me make unbiased and informed decisions. Thank you for your consideration and I hope to work with the BID Board members in the future.

vacancy on the BID and asked to apply. I have a great interest in participating in positive ways
with the Bozeman business and civic communities. As an owner of two buildings downtown and
five operating companies based in Bozeman, I have a vested interest in the health, growth, and

vitality of Bozeman and particularly, its historic downtown. I am very connected to the business
community and an active participant in a number of charitable organizations in town. My interest
in serving the community on the BID is anchored in my own interests in actively participating in
the stewardship of our town. My background in public accounting, financial analysis and tax
planning, real estate development, business investment and operations, and the travel and
hospitality industries provide a great foundation for participation in the various efforts of the
BID.
