HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-11-16 Public Comment - R. Rockafellow - Kagy ReconstructionHello City Commissioners,
Having recently applied for the Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board, I attended their most recent meeting, 7/6/16. I had the privilege of listening to Rebecca
Gleason of the Montana Transportation Institute share her powerpoint presentation
on why a three lane expansion makes the most sense on the Kagy Blvd road construction around the university with bicycle lanes on each side. That would eliminate the need for separate bike lanes from the road and decrease overall
costs in addition to being more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. It may even
decrease the need for an underpass to the stadium. PLEASE take the time to see this powerpoint presentation before you vote on the final design plan. Living in
the New Hyalite View Neighborhood off of Kagy & Highland, I use this street
frequently to get across town. I ride my bicycle year round and would like to continue to be able to do so. With Kagy from Highland to Willson being only one lane, expanding to a 4-lane road by the university is overkill and will only
increase tendencies to speed and dependence on cars whereas the population most
frequently in this area are the college students, who are most likely to walk or bicycle in addition to the rest of us. In my humble opinion, the ideal would be
roundabouts at Kagy & Highland; Kagy and Sourdough/Church; Kagy & Fairway Drive;
Kagy & Willson; & Kagy & 11th. This slows traffic and keeps it flowing and works even during power outages. I sincerely hope you will take the time to review
Rebecca’s powerpoint before you make this important vote.
Sincerely, Rachel Rockafellow
