HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 88- 1259 Amends §§ 15.08.010 and 15.08.100, electrical code The purpose of this amendment is to adopt the 1987 edition of the National Electrical Code and supplemental State and local wiring rules. I 34U ORDINANCE NO. 1259 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, AMENDING ORDINANCE 1084, SECTIONS 1 AND 8, AS CODIFIED RESPECTIVELY AS SECTIONS 15.08.010 AND 15.08.100 OF THE BOZEMAN MUNICIPAL CODE PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF THE 1987 EDITION OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE AS MODIFIED BY THE STATE OF MONTANA AND SUPPLEMENTAL LOCAL WIRING RULES. PREAMBLE BE IT ORDAINED by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman, Montana as follows: Section 1 That Ordinance No. 1084, Section 2 as codified as Section 15.08.010 of the Bozeman Municipal Code be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: 15.08.010 Document Adopted by Reference. A. A certain document, three copies of which are on file in the office of the Building Inspector of the City of Bozeman, being marked and designated as "National Electrical Code, f98f 1987 Edition, published by the National Fire Protective Association," is adopted as the electrical code of the City, for the regulation of electrical installation, repair and maintenance in the City, being referred to and made a part hereof as if fully set out in this chapter. B. To supplement the National Electric Code as modi'fi.ed by the State of Montana, the City of Bozeman adopts and incorporates by reference into the Bozeman Municipal Code said modifications as set forth in the Administrative Rules of Montana at 98.70.401 et seq. Section 2 That Ordinance No. 1084, Section 8 as codified as Section 15.08.100 of the Bozeman Municipal Code be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows. 15.08.100 Wiring Rules. To supplement the National Electrical Code and the Montana Electrical Code. A. All furnace find, air conditioning l:'f-al"eas , and equipment rooms must have a lig~t with a switch at the entrance plus one outlet within twenty-five feet of the equipment. B. Where installations of stationary motors 1/6 h. p. and over are made, a non-temperable fuse, or other approved device shall be used where built-in protection is not provided. The protection and disconnect shall be within sight of the motor. C. Dishwashers and disposals must be cord connected. D. Refrigerators must be on separate circuits. E. Microwaves must be on separate circuits. F. Crawl space lights must be controlled by a switch. Section 3 I Severability. I f any provision of this Ordinance is declared unconstitutional, or the applicability thereof to any person or circumstances is held invalid, the constitutionality of the remainder of the Ordinance and applicability thereof to other persons and circumstances shall not be affected thereby.
