ORDINANCE NO. 1256
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN,
MONTANA, ESTABLISHING THE CRIME OF THROWING, SHOOTING, FIRING OR
OTHERWISE DISCHARGING AN ARROW , BOLT, OR OTHER PROJECTILE FROM A
BOW OR CROSSBOW, OR OTHER DEVICE WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF BOZEMAN,
MONTANA AND PROVIDING FOR THE PENALTY.
Preamble
I
The purpose of this Ordinance is to provide for public safety by regulating and
controlling the throwing shooting, firing, and discharging of arrows, bolts, or
projecti les from bows, crossbows and other devices.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA:
Section I
1 . No person shall throw, shoot, fire, or otherwise discharge any arrow, bolt or other
projecti Ie through the use of a bow, crossbow or other device within the city limits, except when
done in the lawful defense of the person, property or family, or when done either at an
organized and established public or private archery shooting range or gallery, or when done at
an archery shooting target area on private property or premises under circumstances and in
such a manner where any throwing, shooting, firing or other discharge of an arrow, bolt or
other projectile can be and is being performed in a manner so as not to endanger person,
property, animal or fowl, and also performed in such a manner so as to prevent any arrow, bolt
or other projectile from traversing any grounds or air space outside the established boundaries
or limits of any organized and established public or private archery shooting range or gallery,
or archery shooting target area on private property or premises.
2. No person shall throw, shoot, fire or otherwise discharge any arrow, bolt, or other
projectile through the use of a bow, crossbow or other device in parks or other public property.
3. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and
punishable by a fine not to exceed FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500.00).
Section II
Severability
If any provision of this Ordinance is declared unconstitutional or the applicability thereof
to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the constitutionality of the remainder of the
ordinance and the applicability thereof to other persons and circumstances shall not be affected
thereby.
PROVISIONALLY PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the City Commission of the City
of Bozeman, Montana, this 16th day of May, 1988.
