RE: July 11, 2016 City Commission Agenda Item I.E. "Policy Discussion on Mobile Vending"
Dear Mayor Taylor and Bozeman City Commissioners,
The Downtown Bozeman Association has 352 member businesses. The DBA Board is charged to
uphold the DBA Mission and Vision on behalf of those businesses. That Mission and Vision read as
follows:
DBA Mission:
“Promote Downtown Bozeman as a center of business, culture and entertainment.
Conduct and promote activities and events that build a strong local economy and
contribute to the well-being, growth and vitality of downtown Bozeman.”
DBA Vision:
“Maintain Downtown Bozeman as the ongoing center of Commerce and Culture in our
community”
Simply put, The DBA Board, on behalf of 352 DBA members, supports establishing an ordinance
regulating mobile vending as proposed in the staff report.
Our vibrant and relevant downtown is the result of a tremendous investment on the part of brick-and-
mortar restaurants and retail stores. That investment includes capital and sweat equity, but also the
impact fees and taxes that keep Bozeman’s business backbone the desirable destination it is. Downtown
Bozeman’s businesses operate year-round, year-in and year-out, and any resultant growth of those
businesses translates into an increase in hiring that positively impacts the community year-round, as
well.
We greatly value a culturally diverse downtown and encourage all types of business; but believe that in
order to maintain a sustainable downtown community, code must be enacted to give guidelines to
mobile vendors.
Thank you for your service and consideration.
