Remember also, the Law of Unintended Consequences; it's alive & well in our lives today. TWO: DOWNTOWN MAIN is the most important part of our community. It is the heart, spirit, and health of our community. We need to keep them foremost in mind. Downtown merchants work incredibly hard to keep Downtown healthy. They have to work so much harder & pay so much more to stay downtown. Their property taxes are skyhigh compared to our outlying shopping areas. We should give them every consideration. (A)The Rick Williams Draft Parking Report: It suggests re-installing parking meters. This would be harmful. - (B)MOBILE RESTAURANTS. pay through the nose for their downtown property. The least the City can do is to not allow unfair competition with can in no way pay its fair share. THREE: AFFFORDABLE HOUSING. You're trying hard to make some affordable housing available & I commend you for your efforts. BUT how can you allow houses -- that normally would be rentals or bought to be lived in by owners — be allowed to be subverted to short-term rentals in competition with motels and hotels?? It would be so harmful to your good efforts. FOUR: Re the huge number of problems that the City has because of the fact that we provide free services to probably 2 million tourists every summer, that we provide free services to all the people who work in town and live outside, that we provide arguably free services to our students in higher education. A huge effort has to be made to enact the countywide gas tax, to force the legislature to finally recognize that we are indeed a tourist town and must have local option taxes, whether seasonal, sunsetting or on a few items only.
