HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 84- 1167 Amends §§ 15.08.010, 15.08.50 and 15.08.110, electrical code 471+ ORDINANCE NO. 1167 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, M 0 N TAN A, AM END I N G S E C T ION S 1 5 . 08 . 01 0, 1 5 . 08 . 050 AND 1 5 . 08 . 11 0 0 F THE BOZEMAN MUNICIPAL CODE, PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF THE 1984 EDITION OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, REVISION OF THE FEE SCHEDULE AND WIRING SPECIFICATIONS FOR CERTAIN BUILDING CLASSIFICATIONS IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA. I PREAMBLE The purpose of this amendment is to adopt the newest edition of the National Electrical Code, adopt a revised fee schedule for commercial work and clarify the language in Section 15.08.110 of the Bozeman Municipal Code. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN: That Sections 15.08.010, 15.08.050 and 15.08.11 0 of the Bozeman Municipal Code be and the same are hereby amended to read as follows: 15.08.010 Document Adopted by Reference. A certain document, three copies of which are on file in the office of the Building Inspector of the City of Bozeman, being marked and designated as "National Electrical Code, 1984 Edition, published by the National Fire Protective Association," is adopted as the electrical code of the City, for the regulation of electrical installation, repair and maintenance in the City, being referred to and made a part hereof as if fully set out in this chapter. 15.08.050 Permit--Fee Schedule--Period of Validity. I A. At the time the application for a permit is made, the applicant shall pay to the electrical inspector the following fees: Type of Installation Permit Fee 1. Single-family dwellings (includes garage wired at the same time as the house): 100 to 200 amp services $ 43.00 201 to 300 amp services 66.00 301 or more amp services 83.00 2. Private property accessory bui Idings (garages, barns, sheds, etc.): Up to a 200 amp panel $ 20.00 201 to 300 amp panel 50.00 301 or more amp panel 66.00 3. Residential temporary construction service; no separate fee; it is included in the above fees for the service of panel which must be paid prior to the wiring of a building or setting of a construction pole. 4. I nterior rewire only, or new addition I to a home $ 23.00 5. Change of service $ 14.00 6. Mobi Ie home installation: in a court or park $ 14.00 other than a court or park 20.00 ORDINANCE NO. 1167 475 Type of Installation Permit Fee 7. Modular homes: no basement or garage $ 20.00 with a basement and/or garage 33.00 8. MUlti-family dwelling (duplex through I twelve units) $ 25.00 per dwelling unit Note: For buildings containing more than twelve units, use the commercial schedu Ie that follows. 9. Mobile home courts and/or recreational vehicle parks (new, rewire, or addition): fi rst th ree spaces $ 7.00 per space additional spaces over three spaces 2.50 per space 10. New service (livestock well, irrigation well, etc.) $ 20.00 11. I rrigation pumps or machines, per unit (one pump and/or one pivot) $ 16.50 12. Hot tubs and spas $ 10.00 13. All other installations--Commercial, industrial, institutional, or for public use. (Fees listed in this section shall apply to any and all electrical installa- tions not mentioned elsewhere in this schedule. The wiring cost shall be the cost to the owner of all labor charges and all wiring materials and equipment installed as part of the wiring system. The value of factory-installed wiring, I switches and controls, or equipment, shall be included in wiring costs. Temporary construction service (for I commercial, industrial, institutional, or public-use jobs only) $ 20.00 Note: This additional $20 fee is required in addition to the above job cost inspection fees on Iy if a temporary service will be used, and is to be paid at the same time as the regular job cost permit fee before construction begins. Electrical permits on which the fees are under one hundred dollars are valid for a period of one year from the date of issuance. 15.08.110 Wiring--Specifications for Certain Building Classifications. All buildings coming under the following classifications must be wired in approved conduit and be so installed throughout and in accordance with the requirements of conduit I construction designated in the latest issue of the National Electrical Code: A. All public, commercial and industrial buildings. B. All apartment buildings. C. All alterations or additions to any building coming under the above classification, and when the cost of the alteration or addition exceeds fifty percent of the cost of rewiring the entire building, the entire building shall be wired so as to meet the minimum requirements of this code. The inspector may allow alterations or smaller additions to be made with metal molding to the electrical installation in buildings coming under the above classification that have been wired previous to the passage of this code, contrary to the above requirements, but if he deems it necessary, the entire building must conform with the present requirements.
