HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 84- 1163 Amends 8 2.56.010, library board of trustees 464 ORDINANCE NO. 1163 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, AMENDING SECTION 2.56.010 OF THE BOZEMAN MUNICIPAL CODE, ENTITLED APPOINTMENTS-COMPOSITION AND ORGANIZATION-POWERS AND DUTIES. PREAMBLE I The purpose of this ordinance is to delete the following sentence from subparagraph A, IIBefore entering upon the duties of their office, the trustees shall take and subscribe to the oath of office and file the same with the clerk of the commission." BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN: That Section 2.56.010 of the Bozeman Municipal Code be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: 2.56.010 Appointment--Composition and Organization--Powers and Duties. A. The board of trustees of the public library of the city shall be under the department of public welfare. The board shall be composed of five persons, and shall be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the commission, and shall serve without pay. The trustees shall hold their office for the term of five years, and one trustee shall be appointed annually at the beginning of each fiscal year for the term of five years, and until his/her successor is appointed and qualifies. Trustees shall serve no more than two full terms in succession. The powers and duties of the board shall be those prescribed by the laws of the state and the ordinances of the city. I B. The trustees of the library board shall perfect their own organization, and select such officers for such board as they may deem advisable. The chairman and vice-chairman of the board shall be one of their number. They shall have power to select such librarians and other employees as they may determine and fix the amount of any bond which they may require to be given by the library and other employees. They shall have power to receive books from all sources for the use and benefit of the library and to purchase books therefor with any money available for that purpose, and power to prescribe all rules and regulations for the use of books and the preservation of the same. The board shall keep a record of its transactions, and shall make a report to the city commission at the close of each calendar year, covering the business transacted by it during the year.
