HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-09-16 Hosking, Strategic Plan - Public CommentThe most important aspect of any plan the city develops, I (and everyone I know) believe, is to maintain the quality of life that is Bozeman. The only way to do that is to aggressively work to slow, rather than accommodate, the growth rate. Not so hard to do, I think. For instance, abandon the concepts of infill and high rise. Make developers pay the full costs of their development, like the growth in need for schools, police, fire, jail space, road improvement. They seem to be largely avoiding those costs, while current tax payers are paying the bill. Don't abandon building and historical codes just because someone looking to increase their profit asks. Make it difficult for box stores and chain restaurants to plant themselves here. Require full parking for any new or renovated building, commercial or residential. Abandon the use of buzz words like affordability, gentrification, diversity. And possibly most critical of all, our community should not be permitted to grow beyond its water supply. I would suggest as well that the city work with MSU and the county to assure avoidance of water shortage generally. Bozeman has been a beautiful, healthy town, with excellent schools, a low rate of crime, a true feeling of community, and some delightful quirkiness. I think it worth our effort to avoid the destruction of those qualities. Eileen Hosking
